I deeply appreciated the raw honesty Joni Eareckson Tada brings to this devotional. Her reflections helped me better understand how God’s blessings can be found even in hardship—and how we can experience His love, nearness, and joy in the midst of pain and challenge.
After a diving accident left Joni quadriplegic at the age of seventeen, suffering became a defining part of her story. Throughout this book, she vulnerably shares how her pain has taught her to fall more fully into the presence and grace of Jesus. Her testimony is a powerful reminder that intimacy with Christ is often forged through trials, and that His presence is a gift that sustains us in every season.
Jesus Calling was the very first devotional I ever read, and it sparked my love for beginning each day with a devotional practice. I immediately fell in love with how it gently guided me to Scripture—offering a verse to reflect on, be encouraged by, and grow stronger through.
Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to open the Bible and know where to start. Devotionals have been such a helpful entry point for me because they consistently reference Scripture, which then draws me deeper. Often, I’ll turn to the passage and end up reading the entire chapter—or stumble upon another verse that speaks to my heart.
Sarah Young has a unique gift for offering words of comfort that meet you exactly where you are. There have been many mornings when I opened one of her devotionals and felt as though the message was written specifically for my situation. These books have been faithful companions through many seasons of life.
This book felt like a breath of fresh air for my soul. It gently reminded me that I don’t have to rely on my own strength, wisdom, or constant striving. Each chapter paints a vivid picture of how easily we can become weary and spiritually dry when we try to live apart from Jesus—and how He alone offers the living water that revives and sustains us daily.
It’s a hope-filled reminder that a flourishing life isn’t built on self-effort, but on staying rooted in Christ. True refreshment comes from abiding in Him.
This devotional is filled with both encouragement and beauty. Ruth Chou Simons’ original artwork is thoughtfully woven throughout every page, adding depth and intentionality to each reflection.
Each chapter begins by inviting the reader to behold an aspect of God’s character, then explores how “His transforming grace turns your everyday ordinary into a holy place of becoming.” Ruth beautifully reminds us that we become what we behold—and that when we set our hearts and minds on Christ and His redemption story, it inevitably shapes who we are and how we live.
