I loved this book because it reminded me just how powerful prayer truly is. It’s filled with intentional, Scripture-rooted prayers to pray over your husband, and it helped me understand more deeply that God is the One who can truly affect, change, protect, and provide for those we love.
This book shifted my focus from trying to “fix” things myself to trusting God with my marriage. I keep it in my book basket so I can easily return to it when I need guidance or encouragement in prayer.
This book truly opened my eyes to all that God can teach us through marriage. It helped me see marital challenges and everyday moments through a new lens—one that reveals God’s divine purpose for marriage. It beautifully illustrates how God can use marriage to bless us, convict us, refine us, and guide us as we grow together.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
“The times I am happiest and most fulfilled in my marriage are the times I am intent on drawing meaning and fulfillment from becoming a better husband rather than from demanding a better wife. I don’t know why this works… I only know it does work.”
“What’s so fascinating about all of this is that what we need to develop to enjoy an intimate marriage—commitment, tenacity, perseverance—is exactly what Scripture says we need to develop as a faithful servant of God. This isn’t a coincidence.”
This book beautifully connects spiritual growth with marital growth, showing how strengthening one inevitably strengthens the other. It truly is a wonderful circle of spiritual life.
This was the first marriage book I read through the lens of God’s design and purpose. It opened my eyes to how easily culture can shift and redefine marriage in ways that move us away from God’s original intent—often leading to unnecessary struggles and heartache.
Here are a few quotes that stood out to me:
“It will take real effort to make a heavenly marriage.”
“When you honor your husband, you honor God. When you obey your husband, you obey God. The degree to which you reverence your husband is the degree to which you reverence your Creator.”
“God stands with you when you stand by your man.”
“He only needs his woman to pour her life into his, for him to pour his soul back into hers.”
“When a plain, ordinary woman… pours herself into a plain, ordinary man, they both become stronger, more capable, and wiser human beings.”
“You can only realize your womanhood when you are functioning according to your created nature.”
“No man has ever crawled out from under his wife’s criticism to be a better man—no matter how justified her condemnation.”
This book really encouraged me to view marriage as a sacred calling.
Above all else, I always want to ensure that any guidance I receive from books is fully aligned with God’s Word. Scripture remains the ultimate foundation for marriage.
Here are a few verses that continually ground and guide me:
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”
Ephesians 5:22
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Genesis 2:24
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”
Ephesians 5:25
